Breeders' Cup Workouts

Date: 10/28/2019

Monday training at Santa Anita was conducted under clear skies with temperatures in the high 40's climbing to the low 70's. Several Europeans who arrived over the weekend are expected on the track tomorrow morning after clearing quarantine. The post position draw is this evening, so check out all the entries, post positions, and morning line odds here later that night.

Here are photos for 38 horses on Monday morning. All Breeders' Cup contenders must be on the grounds 72 hours prior to their race. Click the small picture to see a larger version.

horse racing breeders cuphorse racing breeders cup McKinzie (Classic) worked 5f in 1:00 1/5. Trainer Bob Baffert was in radio contact with work rider, J.C. Avila, and congratulated him minutes later as he brought the 4yo colt back down the stretch back to the barn. “I had him in :48 3/5 (for the half), out in a minute and out (six furlongs) 1:14 and then I slowed him down. It was nice, nice and smooth. He got into a nice rhythm. It was just enough. I wanted to give him something light. He’s had two pretty stiff works. It was just perfect and he handled it well. He should come out running.”
horse racing breeders cup Blue Chipper (Dirt Mile) is the first Korean-trained horse to run in the Breeders' Cup. New jockey Flavien Prat gets the call aboard the 20-1 shot from post 8 for trainer Kim Young Kwan.
horse racing breeders cup Omaha Beach (Dirt Mile) drew post 5. Trainer John Sadler said, “I couldn’t have picked a better one. He’s right in the middle there. Everything should go well, but we know we have to have a little bit of luck to go along with that post position.”
horse racing breeders cup Snapper Sinclair (Dirt Mile) breezed 4f in 50 4/5 Monday at just past 7:30 a.m. Exercise rider Angel Garcia was in the saddle for trainer Steve Asmussen. Assistant trainer Scott Blasi said, “We just wanted to get through the morning. He’ll run in the Dirt Mile. He’s a very strong horse and hard horse to work and Angel did a good job with him. Just a maintenance half. I think for us the ‘Monday work’ is just a routine and the program that we keep our horses in. Everyone has different ways of doing it, but the best way to win races is to run the fastest horse.”
horse racing breeders cup Spun to Run (Dirt Mile) drew post 3 at 6-1 odds. Irad Ortiz Jr. rides for trainer Juan Carlos Guerrero.
horse racing breeders cup Paradise Woods (Distaff) - A day after working 5f in 1:00 flat over the Santa Anita track, trainer John Shirreffs said the multiple Grade I winner had emerged from the move in good order. As much as Paradise Woods can test the patience of her connections with her quirks, her raw ability has more than made up for any frustration she has caused along the way. Her two wins this year have come by a combined 12 ¼ lengths and all five of her career victories have come at Santa Anita.
horse racing breeders cup Bellafina (Filly and Mare Sprint) is a 6-1 contender for trainer Simon Callaghan. Flavien Prat will ride from post 6.
horse racing breeders cup Selcourt (Filly and Mare Sprint) drew post 7 at odds of 10-1. Luis Saez gets the call for trainer John Sadler.

horse racing breeders cup Dennis' Moment (Juvenile) galloped 1 5/8 miles under exercise rider Tammy Fox. Trainer Dale Romans is never shy about talking up his horses, but Dennis’ Moment has made the biggest statement on his own behalf with his precocity and brilliance. The son of Tiznow broke his maiden by 19 ¼ lengths at Ellis Park and coasted across the finish line when taking the Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs Sept. 14. “He goes out there and he just does his thing,” said Fox, longtime partner of Romans. “He looks around at the mountains and he’s checking everything out and he’s kind and fun. I don’t want to say this is my best horse that I’ve been on, but he could be.”
horse racing breeders cup Full Flat (Juvenile) represents Japan and trainer Hideyuki Mori. Yutaka Take gets the call aboard the 30-1 outsider from post 8.
horse racing breeders cup Maxfield (Juvenile) galloped 1 mile under exercise rider Paul Madden. “He looked like he handled the surface good,” trainer Brendan Walsh said. “It’s hard to tell from just galloping but he looks to be moving super. He just has tons of class, and you can’t teach that.”
horse racing breeders cup Scabbard (Juvenile) drew post 5 for trainer Eddie Kenneally. Mike Smith rides the 8-1 shot.
horse racing breeders cup Donna Veloce (Juvenile Fillies) and jockey Flavien Prat will break from the rail on Friday. Simon Callaghan trains the 3-1 favorite.

horse racing breeders cup Vitalogy (Juvenile Turf) came out at 9:30 a.m. under rider Paul Madden for a 1m gallop Monday morning. Originally conditioned by Joseph O’Brien, Vitalogy joined Walsh’s barn after his third-place finish in the Summer Stakes at Woodbine Sept. 15 and subsequently finished second to Peace Achieved in the Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland.
horse racing breeders cup War Beast (Juvenile Turf) is a 20-1 outsider for trainer Doug O'Neill and jockey Abel Cedillo from post 10.
horse racing breeders cup Another Miracle (Juvenile Turf Sprint) drew post 3 with Manny Franco aboard for trainer Gary Contessa.
horse racing breeders cup Bolo (Mile) drew post 7 for trainer Carla Gaines. Julien Leparoux rides the 30-1 outsider.
horse racing breeders cup Lucullan (Mile) drew post 2 for jockey Luis Saez. Kiaran McLaughlin trains the 12-1 shot.
horse racing breeders cup True Valour (Mile) is a 20-1 shot trained by Simon Callaghan. Drayden Vam Dyke rides from post 5.
horse racing breeders cup Engage (Sprint) worked 3f in 37 3/5 for trainer Steve Asmussen with exercise rider Angel Garcia. “Just like with Midnight Bisou, we weren’t looking for anything really,” assistant trainer Scott Blasi said. “We just wanted to keep him happy and healthy. It was just an easy three-eighths in 37 and three.”
horse racing breeders cup Hog Creek Hustle (Sprint) is a 20-1 outsider for trainer Vickie Foley. Mike Smith rides from post 2.
horse racing breeders cup Matera Sky (Sprint) represents Japan and trainer Hideyuki Mori. Yutaka Take gets the call aboard the 30-1 outsider from post 10.
horse racing breeders cup Mitole (Sprint) is the 9-5 favorite for traner Steve Asmussen. He drew post 4 with Ricardo Santana Jr. aboard.

horse racing breeders cup Final Frontier (Turf Sprint) is a 6-1 shot for trainer Tom Albertrani. Luis Saez will be in the irons on post 9 on Saturday.
horse racing breeders cup Legends of War (Turf Sprint) drew post 8 for trainer Doug O'Neill. Rafael Bejarano rides out of the 8 post.
