Left: Belvoir Bay in the winner's circle. Winning trainer Peter Miller said, "I was looking at Stormy, Om and Belvoir Bay and all three broke sharp, so that was key. I wanted them all to break sharp and they did. All three jockeys followed instructions to perfection. She’s just a tough filly. She’s just so tough. I was telling everyone all week that she ran second to Blue Point and Blue Point would be even money in this race. She got no respect. I don’t know what they were thinking, but Mr. Barber had confidence and he bet with both hands. Om ran awesome.
Right: The trophy presentation for the Turf Sprint. Winning owner Gary Barber said, "Firstly, Peter did an amazing job getting her ready, as you say, after five month's layoff. But that's his specialty. Especially on a 5 furlong turf race, you're not like training for a 1 1/4 race, so you can get them further quicker. He told me we'll get her ready there. And he was amazing. Javier Castellano rode a brilliant race. The 12 hole, I was worried about being very wide. He got over, got to the fence. Once she got to the fence on the lead, she's done that three times before, and I knew that 5 furlongs would be tough to catch her."
Left: Belvoir Bay heads out to the track before the race. Winning jockey Javier Castellano said, "This horse just rocketed out of the gate, and the break is so important in these races. She relaxed for me around the turn and it gave me confidence that we were going to win. Peter told me the horse was training great and he had confidence in me. I’m very lucky and happy to be part of this horse."
Right: Belvoir Bay heads back to the barn after the race. Miller added, "I followed something similar that we did with Stormy Liberal two years ago when he came off the long layoff. And I keep my old charts, and I pulled up the old charts from two years ago and took a look and kind of wanted to mirror that similar program."
Left: Second place finisher Om in the post parade. Jockey Manny Franco said, "I had a great trip. My horse broke clean. I was able to stalk the speed. I was in a good spot. The horse ran huge. I’m very happy with the way he ran."
Right: Third place finisher Shekky Shebaz in the post parade. Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. said, "He didn’t break that good so I kind of had to take a hold, which isn’t his style. He still ran good. He fought for second."
Fifth place finisher and beaten favorite Pure Sensation returns after the race. Jockey Paco Lopez said, "He missed the break, so I had to use him just to get position. He likes to be closer to the lead and this left us too much to do. I think that cost us the race."
