2014 Graded Stakes List - The American Graded Stakes Committee has assigned graded status to 455 races for 2014. Five races were upgraded, with one new Grade 1 race (the La Troienne at Churchill Downs) and four new Grade 2 races, and five new Grade 3 races were added. Russell Baze hits 50,000 career races - Jockey Russell Baze became the first jockey to hit 50,000 career starts on January 25, 2013 at Golden Gate Fields. The perennial leading jockey in Northern California, Baze is approaching the 12,000 win mark and is a member of the Hall of Fame in both the US and Canada.
Racing at Woodbine and Mohawk saved for 2 more years - A deal has been reached with the government of Ontario that will allow racing to continue at Woodbine and Mohawk for 2 more years, but leaves the long term viability of racing and breeding in Ontario uncertain. Opening day for Woodbine is set for April 20, 2013.
